Frost Proof Yard Hydrants, Outside Faucet/Spigot
The
sturdy, rugged design of the frost proof yard hydrant supplies
year-round running water for heavy-duty agricultural, stock-watering, and
domestic applications— even in subzero weather. Because the shut-off valve is
set deep (below the frost line), the unit remains operational in the coldest
weather. The hydrant automatically self-drains when shut off— thus preventing
head and standpipe freeze-up. Key benefits are:
- Ease of installation
- Ease of operation
- Economical operation
- A reliable system
- A padlock option
Installation:
- Select localization for hydrant. Check accessibility of 3/4 –inch
water-supply line set below the frost line.
- Dig hole 5 centimeters in diameter and with a depth well below the frost
line (consult local sources for frost-line depth in your area.
- Insert hydrant into hole with lops of valve body below frost line.
Support hydrant elbow or connect filling to a brick or flat rock.
- Connect all necessary fittings. A 3/4-inch hydrant elbow is recommended
for use with a 3/4-inch water supply line.
- To allow for the rapid self-draining of standpipe and head, fill hole to
frost line with gravel or crushed stone (do not use sand)
- Refill hole with dirt.
Operation and maintenance
- The hydrant is designed to use clean water at a pressure under 8 bars. If
the pressure exceeds 8 bars, operate hydrant only in the full-open position.
- Should leakage occur at the packing nut, simply tighten the nut until the
leakage stops. If tightening the nut does not stop the leakage, remove the
nut and replace 7/16-inch packing.
- Apply silicone grease or similar waterproof lubricant to replacement
plunger before installing.
- The seating of the plunger can be adjusted by:
- Turning off the water supply and lifting the handle to relieve pressure
in the water line
- Loosening the square-head set screw
- Lifting the handle slightly to slide the connector up the brass-rod
extension
- Retightening the square-head set screw. The plunger is adjusted properly
if the handle snaps completely closed without any leakage through the
spout.
The water flow can be set at the desired rate by tightening the flow-lock against
the handle. To prevent unauthorized use, the hydrant handle can be
padlocked to the head casting using the provided locator holes.
